Bye Tom…

Tom in sink 16th March 2012

This evening Liesl and I made the decision to put Tom to sleep. It was a really hard decision and some might say that we should have done it months ago after he didn’t respond as well as we hoped to the treatment after he was shot. We gave him over a year, but in reality his mobility and quality of life never really improved more than it did a few months after the shooting last January – Tom was missing for almost a week and returned to us unable to move his back legs, he literally dragged himself home just after New Year 2013. You can read the full story of our start to 2013 here, with an update here.

We did all we could to help him recover and he did manage to walk quite well but never again jumped and was always doubly incontinent. He was always a very active cat and spent most of the time outside terrorising the small creatures in his area; for him not to be able to be as active as he always was is very hard to see.

He will be missed and although its hard and upsetting to do, I am certain that we are doing the right thing both for us and for him – he has no quality of life compared to that which he had before. Bye little boy 🙂

Animal Update…

February 2, 2013 | 5 comments | Blog

Well its been a few weeks since I last posted about Alfie and Tom so I thought it was time to give you all an update.

Many thanks for all of you that have left kind messages, it makes it somewhat easier to know that people are interested  and take the time to post messages of support on the site.

Alfie (dog)

Due to the swift are and attention by Antonio from the VeterPet hospital in Guardamar Alfie is alive and very much well, he has his apitite back and has even more energy than before (it seems unlikely that is even possible!)

What a start to 2013!

January 6, 2013 | 8 comments | Blog

Well, where do I start?

We left for Ireland on the 22nd December, we were going to visit Gary (Liesl’s dad) for one night and then we were to drive down to her sister and family (Jenny, Jim and their 3 boys, James, Adam and Andrew) and her mum (Heather) for Christmas and Boxing Day for our first family Christmas in years and Liesl’s first Christmas back in Ireland for 19 years.

We had Alfie (our English Pointer dog who we found on the road starving and petrified in May) and Tom (the cheeky stray that adopted US as a kitten 2 years ago when we moved to our Finca in Algorfa) booked into separate kennels and cattery because – it was so close to Christmas we couldn’t use our usual place so Liesl had booked separate accommodation for them but warned the cattery that sometimes Tom doesn’t come home for a couple of days so he might not be staying with them.

Wild Mulberries!

May 2, 2011 | Comments Off on Wild Mulberries! | Blog

Today we walked along the river bank just beside our house in search of wild mulberries that we had seen yesterday, we found three trees full of them!

We picked about half a carrier bag full and brought them back home, straight on the Internet to find out what you can make with free fruit!

Liesl cleaned and weighed them – 1.5 Kg – now bad for 15 minutes picking, there were plenty that we couldn’t reach and also plenty that we didn’t pick as they weren’t ripe, we hope to go back every other weekend and get more.  The Internet has given us recipes for mulberry crumble and mulberry jam so we are off to the shops now (if they are still open on a bank holiday Monday) to get some ingredients to see what we can make.

Liesl in Benidorm

February 12, 2011 | Comments Off on Liesl in Benidorm | Blog

I went to Benidorm with 5 other girls – €64. each for 2 nights full board- can’t be bad!

I have never eaten as much before in my life!  Being on a diet didn’t stop me trying everything there was – I didn’t want to miss out on anything!  The entertainment was excellent and Chris and I even had time to christen our new bikinis in the indoor pool!

Pictures of the apartment

January 4, 2011 | Comments Off on Pictures of the apartment | Blog

Mark came along to take photos of the apartment as we now need to try to get it sold as quickly as possible.  The pictures have turned out so well, we now feel like we want to move back there! LOL  When we see the view, it takes our breath away – when we lived there we didn’t look at it ! – funny how things work out …

If anyone out there wants to buy it – the price is very reasonable!

Poor wee Hettie….

January 3, 2011 | Comments Off on Poor wee Hettie…. | Blog

Poor little Hettski had to be put to sleep on 29th December.  She was with us for so many years and she has been such a part of our lives.  She was with us through the move from 9 Holbush way to 5 Holbush way and our next move to Spain and then to the finca.  She has been on holiday with us to Ireland, stayed in a boat for a week with us, stayed in hotels and gone camping with us.  We bought a left hand drive card so Richard could drive her over to Spain.

She was a beautiful dog – inside and outside.

Hettie, we miss you so much – thank you for being with us for so long and loving us so much xxx

The office is finished and ready to move into.   It takes the whole weekend to move everything and get it all set up so we can work in it.  Richard keeps looking around and saying he loves his office!

Nick and Jenny come to visit on the same weekend!

November 30, 2010 | No comments | Blog

It was lovely seeing them both again and a coincidence that they both came on the same weekend!  Jenny stayed with Liesl’s Mum and Nick with us.

Liesl and Jenny spent Thursday together – Jenny insisted on cuddling the hens – totalling oblivious to the fact they were putting sh*t all over her nice red coat!  They wandered up to the village and bought some fruit and veg and then made an omelete with some of our own fresh eggs.  It was a lovely day – and Liesl hops that they can do it again some time again next year.

Richard & Nick spent the Friday together “bonding” as Liesl calls it!  It was really nice to see Nick again and to spend some proper time with him.  The last time we saw him was when he came over as a surprise for Richard’s 40th birthday.  Nick seemed to enjoy the chilling weekend but it went too quickly.  Hopefully he will get out to see us again soon.

The office Saga Continues…

November 30, 2010 | Comments Off on The office Saga Continues… | Blog

John is going to renovate the office for us and Richard and I will help where it needs 2 people.  Although we live in the finca, the real office is still in Gran Alacant.  Richard is having to work on computers there till late at night and then coming home  – or sometimes ends up staying over!  – we can’t wait until the office is finished and we can lead a less complicated life.
